This book is written for gastroenterologists, hepatologists, fellows, nurses, students, and all health-care providers to benefit those with hepatobiliary diseases. The clinical subjects covered are diverse and span both adult and pediatric illness. The style of the text is question and answer, designed to engage the reader. Concise text delivers the most clinically relevant inform ation, guiding up-to-date management of liver and biliary tract disease. The plentiful use of illustrations and presentation of laboratory data simulates the clinical setting and encourages the reader to formulate an opinion; and then seek new information in the answers provided on the page following each question. The topics included in this book were selected to represent the wide spectrum of clinical issues facing the practitioner. In addition to the common problems of viral hepatitis, alcoholic liver disease, and gallstones, we have included information on metabolic disorders, transplantation, cancer, and autoimmune disorders such as primary sclerosing cholangitis and primary biliary cirrhosis. We are confident that the reader will find this broad educational experience both informative and fun.
